From PLACE 1.0 to PLACE 2.0.
This page is about the earlier platform. The films and work here show what PLACE 1.0 could do, not today's product. What you can use today is PLACE 2.0.
PLACE Technologies is a Sydney-based social enterprise connecting people to place.
Same aims, new platform.
After working in the US, PLACE replatformed as an AI-first company, building on what our clients valued most over the years.
| 1.0 The first platform | 2.0 PLACE today | |
|---|---|---|
| Homes in 3D | A modular home configurator. | PLACE Build: any manufacturer's homes plus the PLACE collection, on a block, with finishes, sun and walls up or down. |
| Play | PLACE Play, a building game. | The game is now inside Build, built for a real decision: save, share, export a site plan, ask for a quote. |
| Projects | Project listings, renders, community support before approval, and supporter channels. | PLACE Projects: a page per development with support, polls, sign-ups and enquiries to your CRM. |
| Insight | What clients learned from their supporters. | PLACE Pulse: support, sentiment, questions and choices, with an exportable planning report. |
| Setup | Set up with each client by the PLACE team. | Archie, an AI setup assistant. Nothing goes live until you approve the preview. |
| Status | The earlier platform, replaced by 2.0. | Projects ready for pilots · Build in testing · Pulse in Projects now. |
What our clients valued most.
Five things PLACE 1.0 clients came back for. Each one is part of PLACE 2.0.
A home for each project online
A project listing where people can see what's planned.
Renders people could picture
3D renders of the homes and the site that people can picture themselves in.
Community support before approval
Engagement with neighbours and future residents that builds support early.
A supporter base
Social channels so supporters can follow and share.
A path to residents
A clear path from interest to buying or renting the homes.
Earlier capability, on film.
These films show the first platform, from homes and small offices to the metaverse. They are not today's product.
A vision for sustainable, attainable housing.
In 2018 Sarah Murray, PLACE's previous founder, gave a TED talk, A playful solution to the housing crisis. It has been played more than 1.2 million times, and the messages people sent afterwards became the research below.
Today is no different. We still believe it. With AI-enabled business and tools, and an Australia embracing pattern books, we have never been better equipped as a nation.
PLACE, 2026
What the world told us about home.
After PLACE's 2018 TED talk, 774 people from at least 19 countries wrote to us about the home they wanted. We read every message and found seven things they had in common. With Australia now introducing housing pattern books, pre-approved designs that people can choose and adapt, what they told us matters more than ever.
- Hope after being shut out
- Choice and control
- Play makes design feel possible
- Sustainable and affordable, together
- A home with purpose and connection
- A sense of place is a life, not a building
- The need is local, everywhere
